Episode transcript:

Peta [00:00:00] Hello, how are you?

[00:00:03] This is just a quick message for you. This is not an episode, and that's because I have news and it's really good news and I want you to be the first one to know.

[00:00:17] I've been hinting on my Instagram over the last couple of days that I have a secret and I'm so thrilled to be able to finally tell you. I am not going to promise to not cry because, frankly, I have been crying on and off all week. That's how much this news means to me.

[00:00:42] I am thrilled to announce that The I Can't Stand Podcast, is now in partnership with Nova Entertainment. I honestly cannot believe it.

[00:00:57] Now, what does this mean for you? Well, nothing really on the podcast is going to change. It will still pop up in your feed every Tuesday. The only difference that you noticed is that there is now going to be advertising at the beginning and at the end of the podcast. This means that for the first time since I left my corporate job, I will be earning an income for what I love to do.

[00:01:29] The reason why I'm so emotional is, of course, because I'm proud of myself, but more because I understand how much of a big deal it is for someone with a disability to be given a voice and a platform like I have just been given. I know I'm one of the very rare and very lucky ones but I hope; this is my sincere hope, that this marks a change, that people with disabilities are going to be more visible in the media to be listened to and to be seen as equal to everybody else in society.

[00:02:16] I know that I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for all of you listening now because your encouragement and fantastic questions have given me the ability to illustrate that somebody with a disability has the ability to speak for themselves and advocate for a community that is often forgotten.

[00:02:45] I understand that I'm only just one person in the disability community, and because of that, I feel that it is only right that I begin to interview other people with a disability to hear what it is like for them to live with their disabilities. I will still be answering questions from the audience, but I think it's important to also make sure other voices are heard.

[00:03:16] So this coming Tuesday, I'm going to be speaking with Elle Steele. Elle Steele is an Australian Paralympian and her insights on what it is like to live with a disability for her with uplifting, enlightening and thoroughly entertaining. So that's something for you to look forward to on Tuesday.

[00:03:40] But before that, this afternoon, Sunday, the 1st of August at 3:00 p.m., I'm going to go live on my Instagram to celebrate with you, because I don't think it's right that this is all about me because I wouldn't be here without you. So if you want to join me live on my Instagram, please, I would love you too. I might even have a margarita. OK, guys. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. Thank you again so much.
